Arctic Lapland Rally, Finland
Co-driver: Miikka Anttila
Friday 27th of January
"The rally got a sticky start because changing from the mixture of Alps and coast to snowy Lapland wasn´t so easy after all. Furthermore incipient
flu and fever weren´t helping the situation. Yet our speed was improving stage by stage. Our result was third overall and second best points in Finnish
Championship.
3rd overall, 2nd in Finnish Championship"
Saturday 28th of January
"I started the attack in the morning.
It was a successful morning and we achieved two fastest times. But then on stage ten we had too much speed in a tight turn to the left and we drove off
the road deep into a snowdrift. And of course no spectators on sight to help us. After shovelling for one hour we got the car out, but the rally was over
for us."

"There was only one stage in the rally, which was driven four times. The roads were slippery and difficult to drive because there was a
lot of water and mud. We had trouble to keep the engine running in puddles on the first two stages. The last two times went well, when the puddles dried
out. Result was victory of group N and second in overalls by the end of the day. This rally was a perfect ending for the season 2005."

Co-driver Miikka Anttila.
"This rally was a round of Italian Rally Championship. Start was excellent. We were 4th overall on first stage.
Car was working and driving felt good. After first leg we were 6th, we dropped down due to dust problems. The beginning
of second day went as good as first one and we raised even 4th place. But after wrong tyre choise, we were again 5th I tried
to fight 4th place back on two last stages, but I made a mistake and rear tyre hit a bank. So rear suspension was damaged
and I had to drive peacefully to finish."

Rally San Martino di Castrozza, Italy (tarmac)
Co-driver Carl Williamson.
"Round of Italian Rally Championship. First rally with group N car in tarmac and mountain roads. We started carefully
but on middle of SS5 we had to change a tyre. Because of that we lost 3,5 minutes. It rained on next day, which I preferred.
Unfortunately engine started to leak and power vanished. Luckily we were able to drive to finish. Surpise, surprise
we got a huge trophy, as we were the best foreign drivers."

"We had every chance to compete tough and car felt good in tests. On stage 3 I made an error. When car slided in junction, it poked
in to furrow and it rolled upside down in the middle of the road. It took only a minute to continue but then on SS4 we retired because
differential lock broke."

Rally San Crispino - San Mauro Pascoli, Forli, Italy
Co-driver Miikka Anttila.
"Our goal in this contest was to chase after third position and with these points we could win the whole Subaru Cup.
Fears came true on second stage, when second gear started malfunctioning. Before that we were leading, but because of the problems we dropped second.
Roads were slippery and we drove slow, so second gear should have been handy. We persistently continued the struggle, although the gear was not working every time.
It appeared for a while that rally is too long for us and others are going to catch us. When it became dark, I could keep up the pace while others slowed down a bit.
Battle was worthwhile and we won the Subaru Cup."

Co-driver Miikka Anttila.
"There was 150 km of special stages. After second stage, we were eight seconds behind the leader. But on third stage problems began. Car
started to be very hungry for fuel and we were afraid that we haven´t got enough fuel. Also engine had an air leak. Engine stopped many times on stage four.
We believed already that we have to retire. And then suddenly engine started to get more fuel and we survived to service halt (46. overall). Service didn´t
find the fault, but we decreased power, so fuel consumption would be smaller. It succeeded and so began the crazy chase, which was enough for finishing
third in Subaru Cup."

"For first three rainy and slippery stages we chose softer tyres, when other took harder ones. We set a benchmark of 30 seconds comparing
to other Subarus. We drove the rest of the day sensibly and gab shrunk only little. This was the first time we won Subaru Cup round. Success felt really
nice."

"Two first stages went just in getting used to the car after driving group N. Cars new active diff settings seemed really nice. We fought
really hard with Laukkanen in narrow roads. In the morning of second day gab was five seconds. We tried to claw back the deficit, but we slid off cause
of a bad note. We lost 1,5 minutes and fell third. I drove good times in the end of the day, which brought me confidence after driving off."

Co-driver Miikka Anttila.
"Pressures were enormous in start, because two previous contests in asphalt in Britain had ended to ditch. I started very cautiously, but
I found my confidence and speed soon. We stayed in second place in slippery asphalt for a long time. On third last stage one Irish guy passed us by in
times and we tried to catch him. But I didn´t do very well, I overshot a junction and engine stopped. I tried to start but I didn´t manage before I
switched the main current off and on again. We lost 45 seconds and we were fourth. In finish I was disappointed but on the other hand I had learned again
a lot."

"From Germany straight to Isle of Man. Tiredness affected in making of notes and that´s why there were small mistakes in notes. Tarmac
roads were difficult and rough. I started carefully and then I speeded up. That continued on second day. I was second in overalls. I tried to narrow the
deficit of 20s to first car. But I went off the road on SS15, partially because of slip in notebook."

"Rally began poorly. On Friday SS2 I hit paving stone - puncture. Saturday was rainy and it was very slippery. Stages from three to five
went well, only once engine stopped and I was 6th overall. It was my first time competing in tarmac in wet conditions in Britain. Stage 6 was really
slippery. Because my minor experience and over trying I drove heavily off the road."

"First five special stages went well, I made only small mistakes. On special stage six we hit a bank, consequence was that left rear
shock absorber broke. Because of service prohibition we had to drive next two stages very carefully. I lost all my chances to win. Service personnel made
excellent work and car was again in good condition. Nevertheless we drove last four stages steadily and we kept the second place."

Pirelli International Rally. (first British Rally Championship event).
Co-driver Carl Williamson.
"Rally began splendidly and I led the rally after three special stages. On SS5 it started to happen, it was very foggy and I drove to
ditch. Fortunately I managed to get out off the ditch without any bigger damages, so we continued. I caught the car before me and mud flew and covered our
headlights so badly that we had to stop for a while. I lost eight minutes on that stage and our position dropped from 1st to 20th On Saturday I drove
steadily among three fastest driver and we moved upward to 10th overall."
Motorsport News:
"With visibility down to less than five metres, drivers had no option but to tiptoe their way through SS3, a 12-mile run through Harwood
Forest, with young Finn Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford Focus WRC) quickest by nine seconds."

Co-driver Carl Williamson.
"Roads were very challenging, but nice to drive. It rained in the morning, but sun started to shine during the day and soon roads were
dry. There were a lot of stones on road banks so we had to be cautious. I started in peacefull mind, keeping an eye on goings and making better times. I
tried to narrow the deficit to leader of Subaru Cup, but I tried too hard and we spun. We lost our chances to win and drove sensibly to finish."
Paper: Corriere Dello Sport

"My first rally in WRC car and ice-stud tyres. Car worked fine and I didn´t do any big mistakes. My reaction time in the start was not
good and I spun in last special stage."
"Pohjalainen" newspaper
"Latvala´s driving was convincing. On friday´s first stage young lad from Töysä set the fastest time by 1,7 seconds and when this stage
was driven for second time deficit to second was seven seconds. On saturday´s stages Finnish youngster humiliated his rivals on every stage. Final
difference
to second place was almost two minutes."
