SM TeijoTalot -rally 28.-29.9.2018 (Finnish Rally Championship event)

Juho Hänninen and I went to the last Finnish Championships event to compare our Historic car Toyota Celica’s speed with modern rally cars. The beginning was difficult because the two first stages were driven in the dark and our lights were not working properly. On Friday evening we were the last car starting the race. It felt funny because it was the first time in my career. On Saturday in daylight it was easier to drive and Juho’s comments on stages kept me alert. At the end of the rally I tried to push as hard as I could and get Celica going. I succeeded and we were fifth fastest on the last stage and seventh fastest in the whole rally. My old Celica could not reach R5 cars but it could challenge the other cars.

Rally Pohjanmaa 15.-16.6.2018 (Finnish Rally Championship event)

I had a nice opportunity to take a part Pohjanmaa-Ralli with Juho Hänninen and Toyota Celica. We had some problems with Celica in the previous rallies. We were working hard to solve these issues and change the parts.

In the first stage there were some challenges to find the right rhythm, because we had tested Toyota Yaris WRC for few days before this event. After I got feeling to 30 year older car on the second stage I find the rhythm and Juho read pacenotes like he has been co-driving for ages.

In the afternoon I tried to raise the speed but hot weather caused some lack of power so I wasn’t able to go any faster when the same stages were driven for the second time. We were able to reach the finnish and took the victory in Historic group and 10th place in general overall results.

Autopirttiralli 9.-10.2.2018

This Historic Rally Trophy event was driven in almost my home roads and it suited well to my calendar before the Rally Sweden. Rally driver and friend of mine, Juho Hänninen, was my co-driver.

For the two first special stages we enjoyd a lot about snowy but really slippery roads. We got some long slides.

In the third special stage left front wheel started to shake and soon after that we lost drive from the front. I thougt that drive shaft was broked and I tried to drive safely to the end of the stage. 200 metres before the stage end whole left front wheel loosed and flew to the snow bank. We were able to drive the end. I ran to take the wheel from the snow bank. With the help of friendly spectators I found the wheel and we started to fix the breakage and we were able to take the car to the service.

At the service we sorted out that breakage of the wheel bearing was the reason for loosing the whole wheel. We found a new bearing but we noticed that wheel bearing housing of upright was badly damaged. That is why we weren’t able to fit the new bearing and we had to retire.
