“Fastest in youngsters’ group was Jari-Matti Latvala from Alavuden UA. In youngsters’ group first pass fastest time was driven by Jari-Matti Latvala. With that time he would be also the fastest driver in juniors by 0,04 second. All the other drivers but Latvala improved their times, but still Latvala’s time from the first pass was the fastest by 2,4 seconds.

“In youngsters’ group there were surprise when Jari-Matti Latvala, from Töysä, was only second fastest after the first lap. He has won all the eight rounds that he has driven. Fastest in the first pass was Hannu Lanamäki, from Lehtimäki. In the second loop Lanamäki enriched his time by two seconds and that was enough for the victory. Latvala was trying to battle for the win with slipping clutch, but Lanamäki was 0,15 second faster. Latvala found also some mistakes from his own driving: “We have new gearbox and gear selection is now different. I missed the right gear few times, and maybe that cost the win”, told Latvala.”

“Two fastest drivers in youngsters’ group were from Ostrobothnia. Without any risks Jari-Matti Latvala, from Latvala, took the victory. It seems that Latvala has listened advices well, because with that time he would have been fifth in general group and in juniors’ third. It was quite close that Latvala would have been fastest two wheel drive driver, because he lost that title only by 0,05 seconds.

It was enough for the third win in youngsters group, despite Joni Mäkelä improved his time by 2 seconds.

Jari-Matti’s thoughts about his first start:
“The first start in competition was extremely exciting moment. I was so nervous, that I felt like I wasn’t breathing at all during the first lap. Second start was considerably easier and that’s why I was able to win the event. Toyota Corolla GT was in right shape, but we didn’t have proper racing tyres. We get right tyres right before the start and that increased my tense. I had only once driven rally car on tarmac at Kemora.”
